When planning my visit to Paris, I was nervous about finding food I could eat. I envisioned myself having baguette monomeals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. After all, when one thinks of French food, fromage, crepes, and foie gras (shudder) come to mind. I was ready to pack some instant oatmeal because I didn’t want a shortage of vegan options to come in the way of exploring an iconic city, and embracing its rich history and culture.
As a necessary step before all out-of-town excursions, I hit up my trusty friend Happy Cow to see if I might find some vegan restaurants in Paris. I was surprised to find 21 of them. 21! This number doesn’t even reflect the number of vegetarian or vegan-friendly restaurants there. I found myself indecisive and overwhelmed. For four days in Paris, I would be challenged to try even a fraction of these locations.
Here are the four amazing restaurants I got to check out, all of which I recommend:
Located near the Bastille metro stop in the 4eme arrondissement, Café Ginger opens at lunchtime and then again at dinnertime with a fairly limited menu of a vegetable plate or bowl as main entrees. The plate is essentially the same as a bowl, but includes a savory tart.
They had a few tables outside, so I was able to watch the nearby hustle and bustle of the city while enjoying my meal. The food was extremely fresh and colorful. The different veggies were prepared with unique flavors, making the plate a very satisfying lunch selection.
If you you’d like delicious vegan food without missing out on Parisian charm, Brasserie Lola is the place to go. The restaurant offers a variety of veganized fare, including Pad Thai, Spaghetti Bolognese, and Grilled Cheese. The dessert menu is also not to be missed.
Located in the 15è arrondissement, the restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating to get a full view of the charming neighborhood. You’ll find an eclectic mix of locals and tourists here, enjoying their meals with some fresh bread and wine.
Hank Vegan Burger
I can’t say enough about Hank Vegan Burger. It’s such an awesome vegan oasis, with delicious veggie burgers, customizable to how you like them. As a badass burger shop, they also offer delicious fries and drinks to accompany your meal. Don’t forget to grab a cookie for dessert!
Speaking of dessert, Vegan Follies is a perfect little spot to relax during a hectic day of tourism. They have all sorts of interesting cupcakes and desserts, as well as a few savory options as well. Pictured here is their pear, caramel, chocolate cupcake.
